Welcome to the debut entry of my personal blog. Here you’ll find me blabbering about whatever comes to mind. It may or may not be posted to daily. More likely it’ll be a weekly posting. So add the rss feed to your favorite news aggregator and keep up with what goes on in my world.
The blog also serves as a sort of code/design playground for me to try out whatever new trick that comes to mind. So, in this spirit, I tried out one such trick immediately. Each blog entry will feature a different header image. Due to this, I needed to find a way to dynamically change the color of some of the page’s text to play nicely with the color scheme of the image. So I devized a sweet little php script which reads the rgb values of 5 points of the image, then averages these values and returns an averaged RGB value which is then used to set the styles of certain page elements.
Also notice the nifty dynamic "Recent rotation" playlist, at the bottom, it uses data from my Audioscrobbler text feed, which is dynamically updated using the J.River Media Center Audioscrobbler plugin.
So what else? After over a year of development, I’ve finally completed the recode/redesign of my company’s domain. Digitexturia is now officially nvzion.com/nvzion.net. Digitexturia will continue to redirect to nvzion for the next two years, after that I’ll decide what to do with it. Perhaps it’ll be relaunched as a personal project, I’m not at all sure yet.
It’s been a long time coming. I recoded the php from the ground up, using all I’ve learned over the past five years. I also schooled myself in tableless layout using css. I found that CSS has still got a way to go and could use a few details that would make it easier to transition from table layout. Primarily, rules for centering objects both horizontally and vertically would be very helpful. Hopefully CSS will include such rules in the future. Thanks to Jeffrey Zeldman, his helpful book "Designing With Web Standards" and his useful site A List Apart.
nvzion is now being hosted at Powweb.com. We’ve left Tera-byte in favor of PowWeb primarily because they support both php 4 and php 5. Also enticing was the fact that they provide you with 5gb of storage and 10gb of transfer per day!
