A new day!

Inauguration — Tags: , , , , , — mGee @ 8:55 am

I’m sitting here watching the news coverage building up to the Presidential Inauguration that’ll take place later today. I quite honestly never thought I’d see the day that a black man would become President. I’m proud to be an American today. Perhaps the first time that I’ve TRULY been able to say that. In my lifetime of 38 years, this is the brightest American moment – even with the economic crisis and ongoing war factored in.

2009 will be both a refreshing and a challenging year. President Barack Obama won’t be able to perform miracles, he’ll definitely have a tough job ahead. However, I’m confident he’s the perfect man for that all-important job of President of the United States of America. Congratulations America, welcome to the first day of the rest of your life! The world is watching.

I couldn’t agree with you more. The night I watched his acceptance speech was perhaps the first moment I was proud to be an American. Cheers to what is hopefully going to be an amazing 4 years!

I read or heard recently that perhaps the best part of this presidency will be the sense that we have a shared responsibility, that this president will ask us to work together rather than go shopping while he “handles” things. I completely agree and hope that people don’t simply put the burden on Obama’s shoulders but realize that this is their opportunity to get involved again.

Oh yeah, and totally not sorry Cheney has to wheel his way to the Inaug. today. Hope he splurged on an electric model, ’cause I’m guessing he won’t have access to the finer things for too much longer. Oh, and I wonder if the Hague is wheelchair-friendly.
